second chances?

Just a warning...this may be a long post, it was a long 2 weeks..here we go.

Sunday August 14th: my dad checked into IMC to have a procedure done the next day.
Monday August 15th: 7am dad goes into his procedure. He had a Mini Maze done to put his heart back into a normal rhythm. This procedure consists of them cutting incisions in your side, deflating your lungs, cutting into the sac around the heart and shocking the heart in the problem spots.....OUCH! Mom, Brett and I sat at the hospital and waited, and waited, and waited. Finally his doctor comes out and says that everything went great. They were just waking him up and we'd be able to go see him soon. When we were finally able to go in and see him the RN was in there and so was his Respiratory Therapist(RT). The RT said that his right lung was not inflating and so his breathing was not good. Then the RN asked us if he had ever had kidney problems. Naturally we started freaking out, so the RN kicked us out and said we could come back in a little bit. While we were gone they ended up giving him an epidural to take the pain away. Once they gave him the epidural his breathing became better and his kidneys started working again. yay!
August 16th-August 20th- Dad gets moved out of ICU and get to hang out on the 3rd floor till he's released....nothing very exciting happens on the 3rd and 4th floors which equals a boring week.
August 20th: Dad gets released from the hospital. He was so excited to get out of there! He had no idea what was coming.....
August 20th to August 24th: dad gets to sit at home bored out of his mind. He can't drive so basically he's stuck. He and my mom went on a couple walks and drives. He had no appetite and kept saying that he felt like he was in a fog. We just assumed that he felt that way because of the pain medications they gave him.
August 25th: while my mom was at work she called my dad to see how he was doing. he answered in a weak voice(he thinks its funny to answer the phone like this)so when he answered my mom told him its not funny. He said he wasn't joking. he really didn't feel good. He said that he had passed out twice. My mom called his cardiologist and made an appointment for 12:30 that day. She called me at 11:10 telling me what was happening. I called my boss to tell her I wasn't gong to make it into work because of this. 11:25 I get to my parents house and my mom is on the phone with the paramedics. Paramedics come and haul dad away to the hospital. 12:25 dad is in the ER and his Blood Pressure was 40/20 and his pulse was 20. mom calls dads cardiologist to tell him he won't be making his appointment because he's down in the ER. well next thing we know the doctor and his team are all down there. The nurse kicked me and Brett out and let my mom stay. Next thing a social worker is coming to get me and Brett and saying that my dad isn't doing so well. I start heading back to his room and start seeing people flooding into his room and no one is coming out. then I see my mom in the hall crying and i asked her what happened. she said he had a seizure and now they are doing CPR. I look and see them doing CPR on him and I broke down. All I could think was this cant happen. I can't lose my dad. I'm too young and he's too young. His RN came out and told us that she was sending us to a family counseling room and that she will personally come talk to us when he's stable. As we were walking away she came out and told us that he had a pulse again and his blood pressure is up. when we were in the family counseling room the RN came in and said that they were moving him up to ICU and we can head up there. While we were up there Dr. Doty(best doctor ever!) came in and said that he was doing great. Then another Dr came in and said they were putting him in a hypothermic state to reduce brain damage, and that while in this state they would put him in a medically induced coma and paralyze him so that he couldn't shiver. They kept him in this state from 2pm to about 1030 am the next morning.
August 26th: 1030 am dad is waking up from his long cold night. They tested his function and everything was looking great. Once he was fully awake and off the ventilator the only problem he had is that they wouldn't let him walk and he had short term memory.
Today: Dad is doing great! He's home and bored out of his mind...but he's got an appetite and not in a fog. He feels better than he has in a long time.
I have definitely seen miracles happen in the last 2 weeks. My dad was given a second chance at life and in a way so was I. definitely don't take things for granted because you never know when it will be taken away from you. Thank you for everyones prayers and concerns. I love you Daddy!
